Synchronize Google Calendar Events to Windows Mobile 5.0 with GMobileSync
26 September 2007While at my desk, I generally use Google Calendar to manage my tasks. While on the move, I use my HP iPAQ rx1950, which is a Windows Mobile 5.0 based Pocket PC.
For long, I wished for an application which would synchronize my Google Calendar with my Pocket PC Calendar. Thanks to GMobileSync project which is exactly what I wanted.
GMobileSync is an open-source application. So you can also get involved with the Project. Look here for more details.
After installing GMobileSync, I can connect my iPAQ to my computer(which is connected to Internet) and synchronize my Google Calendar to iPAQ in just few seconds. Now even while I am traveling, I can see my complete agenda on my iPAQ.
Here is a step-by-step tutorial to get this cool application installed and synchronize your Google Calendar:
- Download GMobileSyncSetup.cab from here.
Note : You need to have .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed on your Pocket PC.
- Transfer GMobileSyncSetup.cab to your Pocket PC using either ActiveSync(if you use Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center(if you use Windows Vista).
- Tap GMobileSyncSetup.cab by locating through File Explorer on your Pocket PC. You will see the following screen.
- A warning will appear regarding the Publisher identity. Press Yes.
- You’ll be asked to choose the location to install. Select the appropriate location and press Install.
- A progress bar indicates the status of the application as it gets installed.
- Finally, GMobileSync gets installed.
- You can find its icon by tapping Start and then Programs.
- Once you tap the icon, GMobileSync will launch.
- At bottom right, you can see the Options button. Using this you can configure your Google Calendar account credentials and preferences.
- After tapping Options, select Credentials.
- Here you need to enter your Google username and password.
- After entering them, press Save.
- If you want to change the timezone and other settings, tap Options->Settings.
- Apart from timezone, you can set your preferences regarding the number of days(past and future) to synchronize and also recurrence related events.
- Once you change these, press Save.
- To start synchronizing, press the Sync button on the main screen.
- The application will first check the Network connection and then it starts downloading the Google Calendar events.
- Once it is done with downloading, it will display the message Synchronization Complete!
That’s all. Now you can open your calendar and you’ll see your Google Calendar events.
